Rogers extends satellite-to-mobile roaming to Australia, New Zealand and Japan

Canadian carrier Rogers has added Australia, New Zealand and Japan to its satellite-to-mobile roaming service, taking the footprint to four countries including the US.

Canadian carrier Rogers Communications has extended its satellite-to-mobile roaming service to customers travelling in Australia, New Zealand and Japan, according to a release dated 29 October 2026. The addition takes the number of countries covered by the service to four, counting the US.

Rogers said the service supports text messaging and satellite-ready apps in areas with no cellular coverage. Supported apps include WhatsApp, Messenger and X, Google Maps and AllTrails for navigation, and AccuWeather for real-time weather, with more to come.

Rogers said it became the first and only Canadian carrier to offer satellite-to-mobile roaming in the US earlier this year. Mobile World Live and eSIM.report noted that Rogers had a roaming deal with T-Mobile US earlier in 2026. Both outlets said the Japan arrangement appears to run through KDDI, which earlier turned to Rogers to provide roaming access for its own direct-to-device users.

Rogers chief technology officer Mark Kennedy said Canadians "want to stay connected wherever their travels take them". Rogers said satellite-to-mobile roaming is included in its Ultimate, Popular and Essentials plans, as well as eligible Roam Like Home options and select Travel Passes. Mobile World Live and eSIM.report reported access for customers on Ultimate plans, along with some Roam Like Home and Travel Passes options.
