About
How Best Effort is made
Best Effort is a weekday morning brief on Australian carriers and telco, transport, fibre and submarine cables, data centres, and AI infrastructure. It covers global stories when they matter here. It's an Athena Networks side project, read by a handful of people in the industry.
How it's made
Every article is written by AI from public reporting. Each morning, software gathers the day's stories from news feeds and search and picks the ones that matter. It reads every outlet's coverage of each story and writes an article of its own, with direct quotes from the people involved. The outlets it drew on are credited at the foot of each article.
Before anything is published, automated checks confirm that every quote, number and name appears in the source reporting, and that each sentence is supported by it. It's best effort: no SLA, but errors that get through are pulled as soon as they're found.
For publishers
Best Effort reads the news on behalf of a few people, the way a feed reader or read-later app does. It reads public RSS feeds and newsroom pages at a slow, polite rate, identifying itself as BestEffort/1.0 (+besteffort.au/about). For pages that only work in a browser, it uses a standard browser instead. It never gets around paywalls, logins or bot challenges. Articles are written in our own words from the facts across all coverage of a story. Quotes are attributed, and every source is credited and linked. We never republish your text or images.
